Magi is the gateway to actually doing things in AFSE. Akuma is where doing things stops feeling expensive. The rate goes from 10K to 45K yen per minute, a 4.5x jump, and the immediate consequence is that Champion Board 2 rolls become routine instead of a special occasion.

Pick Magi when…

Stay at Magi if you're behind on stat thresholds. The 100K Strength Area (50x multiplier) is the next big training milestone. If you don't have 100K Strength yet when you hit Magi, focus there before paying the Akuma fee. The class upgrade fee is real and you don't want to lose AFK income to it before you have the underlying stats to support the rate.

Pick Akuma when…

Push to Akuma when you've cleared 100K Strength and have a yen surplus you don't have plans for. Akuma's 4.5x rate pairs with routine Champion Board 2 rolls, and the resulting champion roster acceleration is meaningful enough that it changes how you play.

Our take

Akuma, when ready. Don't rush, the upgrade cost is high enough to slow you down if you pay it before you're stat-ready. But once you are, the jump is one of the best in the mid game. Most players spend 3–5 days at Magi and that's about right.

FAQ

Is the upgrade to Akuma worth it?

Yes, but time it. Wait until you have a yen surplus and you've cleared 100K Strength. Don't pay the fee while you're still grinding stat thresholds, the AFK rate at Magi is what funds your stat progression.

Why is Akuma named after Devil Fruits?

It's a One Piece nod, Akuma no Mi = Devil Fruit. The in-game class doesn't tie to any specific Devil Fruit power, just the general concept.
